Maria Beach is an Assistant Professor of Theatre History, Criticism and Literature and is the Graduate Coordinator for the Department of Theatre. Her OSU undergraduate courses include Introduction to Theatre, Theatre History I and II, Contemporary Theatre History and Voices of Diversity. Her graduate courses include Theatre History and Theory I and II, Dramaturgy and Seminar in Dramatic Literature. She also serves as a dramaturg for the Department of Theatre. She holds a PhD in Theatre History and Criticism from the University of Texas at Austin, a MA in Theatre from Villanova University, and BS/MEd degrees from Vanderbilt University. Her research interests include theatre and war/peace, plays about gender violence, women playwrights, diverse twentieth and twenty-first century theatre and drama and dramaturgy.

Maria has presented papers at many national conferences as well as international conferences in Seville, Spain, and Thessaloniki, Greece. She is currently working on a book about American stage women's activism and World War I. Her book and performance reviews have been published in Theatre Journal. She is an active dramaturg and has worked as a production dramaturg in academic, professional and alternative theatres including Hudson/Stageworks, Oklahoma State University, Renaissance Austin Theatre Company, Vortex Repertory Theatre, Ohio University, Kutztown University, the University of Texas at Austin, Southwestern University and Philadelphia Festival Theatre for New Plays. She is the Chair of the History/Archive committee for the Women and Theatre Program, and a member of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, and the American Theatre and Drama Society.
