Carly Conklin is a director, educator, and scholar focused on performance studies, female empowerment, and issues of representation. A proud Oklahoman, Carly is thrilled to return to Oklahoma State.  As a director, Carly values truth and beauty, and is drawn to plays which offer insight into the human condition with unflinching honesty. Although she has extensive expertise in the area of new play development, much of her experience comes from the contemporary period of drama. Favorite directing credits include Perfect PieStoning MaryRadium Girls, Much Ado About Nothing, Columbinus, and Two Rooms.  A production she directed (White Gleaming Beach by Greg MacArthur) recently advanced to "Best of Fest" at FronteraFest, a fringe festival in Austin, Texas. Conklin has developed many new works both as a director and dramaturg, and she is also interested in Opera, due to her musical inclinations and experience.  As an educator, she has held academic appointments at Texas State University and St. Gregory’s University, developing and teaching curriculum for Beginning and Advanced Acting, Directing, Theatre History, Film, and Introduction to Theatre and Fine Arts classes. She has also collaboratively developed programming for Nexus, a two-week musical theatre intensive summer camp on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where she also taught acting classes and masterclasses on nonlinear approaches to text and character based on ensemble engagement and Viewpoints.  As a researcher, she has been invited to present papers at the Ninth Annual International Research Conference for Graduate Students and the Texas Educational Theatre Association Academic Symposium, Her major research area involves viewing canonical works through the lens of contemporary Feminist Theory and Criticism in order to determine performance value according to current day practices.

Carly completed an M.A. in Theatre in 2012, from Oklahoma State University.   Additionally, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Performance from Oklahoma Christian University and a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from Texas State University.  She is an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.  For a digital portfolio of production photos and a full list of titles Carly has directed/developed, visit her website at www.carlyconklin.com
